Pre & Postnatal Support for Mothers
The inspiration to become a Doula came about when I was studying my law degree, my degree led me onto cases of informed consent, rights in maternity & birth and autonomy. I had given birth 4 times and had no idea of my rights. My aim was to write my dissertation and clarify birthing rights, when and why rights are removed, and how all this affects a mother's mental health during the perinatal period.
I came to the conclusion that postnatal depression can stem from a variety of life experiences, but a big part can be due to lack of information, our rights being violated and a lack of autonomy over our bodies.
I continued my training into PND & PTSD to find the best way to support women who suffered, through my work I counselled used CBT and relaxation techniques amongst other training. I run a PANDAS support group and am a champion for health watch Torbay and Time to Change, and also am a 3 Step Rewind practitioner.
Along the way, I have been joined by exceptionally experienced and compassionate woman who through their own lives and work have been drawn to work with vulnerable women in their community. All of us, work as Doulas but we come together in this joint venture to ensure women in our areas have access to all the support they need during a difficult time.
I had never used a Doula before, but it was my second baby and my first labour had been challenging. I chose Lindsay as she had been recommended through a friend and I felt very comfortable after our first meeting. What I wanted for my second birth was a beautiful event, it was every I wanted and more! Thank you, Lindsay

We had Lindsay as our Doula for our third child, a home water birth after 2 prior caesareans. From the outset, Lindsay went above and beyond, showing a real passion and commitment we had not found elsewhere. At first, I was nervous about meeting Lindsay, with a complex birth history and challenging plans ahead I thought I may scare her off! Having had negative experiences with birth previously I was very anxious letting someone into our private life, fears, and vulnerabilities around birth. However, I simply cannot put into words how pleased I am to have met Lindsay. I couldn’t now imagine anyone else sharing these intimate moments with us.
When I met Lindsay I was suffering with severe PND & PTSD, it was great to have someone there when I needed a "pick me up". I had been through the system and struggled to find anyone who could understand what I was going through. It took time to heal, but I believe it would have taken a lot longer without the knowledge and support of Lindsay.
I contacted Lindsay as she had been recommended through a friend, my wife was suffering with PND and I was confused and didn't understand what I needed to do. I was afraid for my wife and our children. Lindsay made visits and rang on a regular basis to talk to me and my wife, it was helpful to have someone who could support us both during this difficult time.
"Lindsay has a lovely way of making you feel relaxed and able to open up and talk about things, that I certainly had not talked about or thought about before. I found this really helpful in starting to get my thoughts in some sort of order. She provided me with helpful information and links and gave me good guidance whilst always making sure I knew that things were my choice and I was (as far as possible) in control."
When my wife first suggested a Doula I found the concept quite strange. I trusted my wife’s intuition and was happy to meet Lindsay together to discuss what having a doula entailed. Over the course of my wife’s pregnancy, we got to know Lindsay further and I could really see how much she helped to support my wife’s concerns (my wife tends not to listen to me, in typical wife fashion) having Lindsay as a voice of reason really helped my wife to keep calm and prepare for the birth. During the birth, Lindsay helped a lot and I felt gave me the opportunity to fully support my wife on a deeper level as I knew Lindsay was able to relive some of the additional strain and tasks of a woman in labour. Lindsay supported us following the birth, I am happy we made the decision to have her as our doula. I would recommend Lindsay to anyone looking for Doula services.
‘Nothing would be cooler than having Lindsay as your doula!’
